Born in 1950 in Ostend, Belgium, Marcel Wilmet has worked as a journalist, editor, publicist and teacher at the University of Brussels (KuLeuven). He is the author of Tintin: Noir sur Blanc (Casterman) and of many articles on Franco-Belgian comic strips. Marcel Wilmet has worked for Studios Hergé and the Hergé Museum. Wilmet launched Hergé magazine for Editions Moulinsart and was the editor of the first four Hergé sales catalogues. In 2011 he decided to work as an independent advisor in communications and an expert in comic strips. He was one of the experts for Sotheby's France preparing the first international comic strips auction in Paris in july 2012. Later on he worked for different auction houses.
